In the Booth with KAIA and Coach Jojo

KAIA recently held a recording session with vocal coach Jojo Acosta. No stage. No audience. Just the quiet, painstaking work of getting a track right.

Acosta is an international voice coach based in Manila. Over the years, he has trained many singers—some who have won awards locally, others who have earned recognition internationally. His students have stood on stages both at home and abroad. But inside a recording studio, none of that matters.

He sat behind the console listening for what most listeners would miss—a breath slightly off, a vowel not quite open, a line that needed one more take.

The session was straightforward. The group ran their parts. He gave notes. They tried again. Nothing dramatic. Just the slow, unglamorous labor that happens long before any song reaches streaming platforms.

For KAIA, it was another step in their ongoing work. For Coach Jojo, just another chance to do what he loves—teach, listen, and learn alongside them.

KAIA is a Filipino girl group. The quintet consists of twin sisters Charice and Angela, Alexa, Sophia, and Charlotte. Their pre-debut single “Kaya” was released on December 10, 2021. The group officially debuted on April 8, 2022, with debut single “Blah Blah.”
