In a music industry often dominated by trends, Caren Tevanny has carved a distinct space for herself as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, recognized for her distinctive voice and eclectic style. Her journey through the Philippine music scene is a testament to a clear and unwavering childhood dream. “I had always wanted this since I was like five,” she stated in a 2017 interview. “It was always very clear to me that I wanted to be a musician/an artist.”

While many knew her as a member of the popular all-female band General Luna, Tevanny’s artistic identity is deeply rooted in a complex and powerful set of influences. Her musical sense was forged by the technical prowess and ambition of progressive rock and metal giants. She credits Dream Theater, Yes, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Mr. Big, Testament, and Nightwish as her earliest and key influences, alongside the ethereal sounds of Enya and the avant-pop of Bjork.

Following General Luna’s dissolution in 2017, Tevanny embarked on a new chapter, continuing to release music independently. Her dedication led to the 2022 single “Deliverance” under the record label Handpicked. She describes the track as an inspirational rock song blended with electronic and pop elements, meant to remind listeners that “if you put effort to it there’s gonna be something at the end of everything.” True to her artistic control, Caren composes all her released songs.

Her personal life also harmonizes with her musical path. She is married to fellow musician James Mollo, who plays rhythm guitar in her band while she handles lead guitar and vocals.

Her current work with renowned coach Jojo Acosta signals a deepening commitment to her craft, focusing on refining her vocal technique and artistic expression. This mentorship represents a natural progression for an artist dedicated to continuous growth.

Her motivation has always been the art itself. “My love and passion for the art itself,” is what she says has kept her focused.
